Pollination is one of the most important mechanisms in the maintenance and promotion of biodiversity and, in general, life on Earth. Pollinators are not only responsible for pollinating the economically beneficial plants, but they are the ones who guarantee the reproduction of thousands of insect-pollinated plants that are essential components of natural habitats. Many ecosystems depend on pollinator diversity to maintain overall biological diversity.
